Intro: This is the site of Dr. Edwin G Nelson LLB., MSc., PhD

Site mission

In developing countries poverty is generally endemic.

More than half the world's population in relies on subsistence farming and personal enterprise for food or income.

I believe in the idea that poverty alleviation depends on wealth and job creation through business development.

The purpose of this site, therefore, is to promote discussion about how government and business development services can provide an enabling environment and facilitate  enterprise and entrepreneurship development.

What am I doing now?

I am 'between projects', having recently concluded work on projects in Tanzania, Zanzibar and Bhutan.

Recently concluded assignments

My longest project of 11 years, helping to establish and develop the University of Dar es Salaam Entrepreneurship Centre, has reached a conclusion. This also included work with the Zanzibar Institute of Tourism Development.

In parallel,  I have worked on a variety of other, shorter assignments in China, Vietnam, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh and Bhutan: coaching members of staff of the College of Business Studies in Dar es Salaam to research and prepare proposals for doctoral studies, institutional capacity-building with a research institute (Research on Poverty Alleviation) in Dar es Salaam, evaluating the effectiveness of development project for civil sector associations in Bangladesh, designing an enterprise development programme to support the localisation of the supply chain servicing Azerbaijan's oil and gas industry, founding and establishing regional enterprise development agencies in China, and formulating a project to establish business incubators and business-friendly provincial government in Vietnam.

The Notes Pages labelled beneath the site banner (from 'Intro' to 'Institutional capacity building') are orientation pages, providing some introductory observations on key topics on enterprise and BDS development. Topic Sections on the left of this page contain a variety of materials that may be useful to anyone with a practical interest in facilitating enterprise development through capacity building for entrepreneurship and BDS. These sections are live and will grow as material added and refined.
